Key Features and Benefits:

  • Modular Design: The TSI OmniTrak™ Solution supports a wide range of modules, allowing users to customize their monitoring needs. I was fortunate to receive the Ammonia, Ozone, and PM module for fine particles, which also functions as a particle counter. The modularity ensures flexibility and adaptability to different environmental conditions.
  • Wireless Connectivity: One of the standout features is the wireless communication between the modules and the Smart Station via Bluetooth®. This eliminates the need for physical connections, making it convenient to deploy and monitor air quality in various locations.
  • Portable Option: The Smart Station can be used with or without attached modules. This means you can carry the station with you and track air quality on the go by simply attaching the desired module.
  • Intuitive Interface: The large screen on the smart station resembles a smartphone, and it appears to run on an Android operating system. This familiar interface makes navigation and data interpretation straightforward.
  • Real-time Monitoring and Data Recording: The OmniTrak provides real-time measurements of various pollutants. Additionally, the “Study” function allows users to record data for further analysis and comparison.
  • Cloud Connectivity and Data Access: The device connects to the TSI Link™ cloud platform via Wi-Fi, enabling users to access and analyze data from anywhere. Furthermore, connecting the device to a computer via USB-C cable provides another option for data transfer.

Who can benefit from the TSI OmniTrak™ Solution

For Industrial Hygienists, it can be used to assess workplace exposures to hazardous substances. Industrial hygienists rely on portable air quality monitors to assess and control workplace environments, ensuring the safety and health of employees. OmniTrak provides real-time data on various airborne contaminant and gases, allowing for immediate identification and mitigation of potential hazards.

Environmental Health & Safety Officers (EHS) can leverage it to monitor ambient air quality and identify potential environmental hazards. EHS Officers play a crucial role in ensuring safe and healthy working environments. Portable air quality monitors are indispensable tools in their arsenal, providing data on air quality conditions. EHS Officers can quickly identify potential air quality hazards such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particulate matter (PM), or excessive levels of Ammonia (NH₃). Monitors help ensure compliance with occupational exposure limits (OELs) set by regulatory agencies and finally by measuring pollutant levels, EHS Officers can assess the potential health risks to employees and take appropriate preventive actions.

Building Managers can use the OmniTrak to ensure indoor air quality is maintained at safe levels, while Indoor Air Quality Consultants can rely on it for in-depth investigations and assessments. Both benefit as such instrument help professionals pinpoint sources of IAQ problems, such as mold, carbon monoxide (CO), or inadequate ventilation and accumulation of hazard gases such as formaldehyde (CH2O). Optimize HVAC systems to improve energy efficiency while maintaining good IAQ.

Most TSI OmniTrak Modules come factory calibrated with a certificate. This ensures accurate and reliable measurements from the moment the modules are received. The calibration certificate provides detailed information about the module’s performance and traceability to national standards.

TSI Link™ Report Creator

The TSI Link™ Report Creator is a versatile Excel add-on designed to streamline air quality data analysis for professionals. By directly connecting to the TSI cloud platform, the tool empowers users to generate a wide range of reports using their uploaded study files. Alternatively, air quality data can be manually imported.

By selecting one of the supported workbooks — A-B Comparison, Basic Analytics, Inhalation Exposure, or Spatial Analysis — users can access tailored options to create customized reports. To enhance spatial analysis, the tool supports floor plans, enabling users to precisely specify measurement locations. Once the report is complete, it can be saved as an Excel file or exported as a PDF for easy sharing and distribution.

Here is PDF example of the report.

My Thoughts

I used the TSI OmniTrak™ Solution as a tool to assess the performance of air purification systems. It can accurately measure particle efficiency, a critical factor in determining a purifier’s ability to remove airborne contaminants. Additionally, with the ozone module, ozone is a potential byproduct of some purifiers that employ ultraviolet (UVC) lamps or ionization, I evaluated the overall effectiveness of air purification systems while ensuring that they are not generating harmful levels of ozone.

Reviews should evaluate the products’ current features. However, certain hardware features, such as the camera and microphone integration, and the extra left-side button, have been deliberately withheld and they are not accessible yet to the users. This approach allows for incremental improvements and feature additions through software updates, minimizing the need for frequent, costly hardware purchases from the experts/users.

Personally, I found the device valuable for measuring particle number concentrations, but I wish it also provided ozone measurements in μg/m³ as this is the more common unit for measuring gas pollutants outside the United States.

Overall, the TSI OmniTrak™ Solution  is a well-designed and capable air quality monitor that offers a combination of versatility, ease of use, and comprehensive data tracking. Whether you’re a researcher, environmental professional, or simply concerned about the air you breathe, this device provides a valuable tool for monitoring and understanding air quality.

One last comment: While the absence of a dedicated smart phone app for the Bluetooth® modules might seem initially counterintuitive, the use of the specialized Smart Station offers several advantages. The station’s robust design, specifically engineered for module interaction, ensures reliable and consistent performance. In contrast, the fragility of mobile phones with an app could compromise the system’s integrity in demanding environments.
